In early October 2016, I received a task from the City Artists Association, asking me to draw a pen drawing for Dr. Xu Kewen, Dr. Ma Weiming, and Dr. Zhu Qi from Yangming Hospital, so that I can hold it together with other drawings in the hospital next month. Publicity and exhibition in the art festival.
On October 10, I took the time to visit Yangming Hospital. I was lucky. I visited the three expert doctors on duty in the afternoon. And paid attention to their professional characteristics, and prepared to treat them differently in painting creation.
Next, the key point of the creation is the cut-in of the shape. What needs attention is to grasp the key in the character's personality. In order to portray the image of Dr. Ma Weiming’s diagnosis of Chinese medicine, I plan to set off the picture by taking pulses, observations, and assistants; I will focus on reading the CT photos of Dr. Xu Kewen’s neurology department; taking the plot of Dr. Zhu Qi’s ward visit The main description..., so I gradually formed a concept. In my relatively free time in November, I first completed the pen drawing effect drawing in the size of A3 paper. I planned to make a detailed description of this and prepare for a mission. But two days later, I thought: If time permits, I can show the image of these three good doctors recommended by the hospital with extraordinary achievements in the form of ink painting, which may be more artistic. But I have never painted small-scale portrait paintings with names and surnames in the form of ink painting. How to do? After thinking, combined with my extensive practice in calligraphy over the past three years, I finally made up my mind to try a small ink figure painting.
The paintings will be exhibited on November 24th, and the Art Association has been tolerant of me and allowed me to hand in the works on the morning of the 21st. Other authors have already submitted their works, and most of them have been framed. But I only drew a pen drawing before, and I also want it to be slightly larger than A3 paper. I only have time to paint from the 19th to the 20th (Saturday and Sunday), so this weekend is two days that I am extremely nervous! I almost gave up other things and devoted myself to creation, and communicated with the creator Zhang Ying (Chairman of the Artists Association). It wasn't until the evening of the 19th that the ink and wash part was completed and signed, and the coloring was completed on the evening of the 20th. I hurriedly submitted these three ink paintings of 355mm in length and 490mm in width in the morning on the 21st.
Ink Painting "Xinglin Becomes a Master-Ma Weiming"
Ink painting "Zhu Qi, the good doctor who saved people from the Yellow Crane Tower, is checking the ward"
Ink painting "Neurology Expert-Xu Kewen"
With a sense of anxiety, I took pictures of the drawings with my mobile phone and sent them to an old friend of mine, let him take a look, and asked him if he knew these doctors. This friend named "Four Seasons Ping An" on WeChat said: Dr. Xu is a classmate of his middle school. He knows all the doctors and Dr. Ma is very familiar with him. They are all alike! In the evening, I took out my mobile phone and asked my mother to identify it. When I wanted to see if the old man still knew the doctor holding the X-ray film, she said: "It's Xu Kewen!" This surprises me, knowing that my mother's eyes have a combined vision of only 0.4 miles, but she can meet Dr. Xu on her mobile phone. The old man told me that she worked with Dr. Xu in the hospital before retirement.
I sent these three painting subjects again and asked them to comment on whether they look like, but I also got a positive reply from the three doctors. Dr. Ma thinks that the paintings are very vivid, and he knows who he is at a glance, and he also painted the character. After listening to it, I was very relieved and happy. What moved me even more was: When I expressed to Dr. Xu Kewen that I feel that you are so dedicated to the patient, and I express it with creativity from the heart, Dr. Xu replied: “It’s my duty to treat patients. Your creation is touching." These words made me feel the realm of these noble doctors.
